Sohum Shah’s 2018 fantasy-horror film 'Tumbbad' has once again captured the attention of moviegoers with its successful re-release. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, this atmospheric thriller originally had a modest box office run, collecting ₹13.48 crore over two months.

Now, six years later, the film's re-release has exceeded expectations, outperforming several new releases, including Kareena Kapoor’s latest crime-thriller, 'The Buckingham Murders'.

The re-released version of 'Tumbbad' earned a remarkable ₹7.45 crore in its first weekend, a stark contrast to its initial run when it grossed ₹3.25 crore in its opening three days.

The film, which explores greed and mythology in the eerie setting of 20th-century rural India, has struck a chord with modern audiences, proving the longevity of its unique narrative and haunting visuals.

On Friday (September 13), 'Tumbbad' made a solid comeback, earning ₹1.60 crore nationwide. Saturday saw an impressive surge with ₹2.60 crore in collections, while Sunday pushed the weekend total beyond ₹7 crore with a haul of ₹3.25 crore. This renewed interest in the film highlights the growing appreciation for unconventional stories in Indian cinema.

The Fate of Kareena Kapoor’s 'The Buckingham Murders'

Kareena Kapoor’s much-anticipated 'The Buckingham Murders', directed by acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta, has struggled at the box office. Despite being lauded for her gripping performance, the film grossed only ₹5.30 crore over the weekend, falling short of expectations.

This movie also marks Kareena’s debut as a producer, adding a personal touch to her involvement. However, the crime-thriller has failed to connect with a wide audience, trailing behind the re-release of 'Tumbbad' by 40%.

While 'The Buckingham Murders' was expected to be a major player at the box office, its slow start contrasts sharply with the momentum of 'Tumbbad', signaling the unpredictable nature of audience preferences.
