Adding to the star power on ‘Adipurush’, Bollywood actors Kriti Sanon and Sunny Singh have joined the team, the producers announced on Friday. Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan are playing the leads in the period saga.
The film, produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and directed by Om Raut, is an on-screen adaptation of Indian epic Ramayana. Prabhas will feature as Lord Ram, while Saif will play the role of Raavan. The movie is described as the celebration of the "victory of good over evil." Some reports also suggest that Kriti might play Sita's character, while Sunny might play Lakshman's role in the movie.
"Welcoming @kritisanon and @mesunnysingh to the #Adipurush family," Baahubali actor shared on his official Instagram account, alongside pictures of Sanon, Singh, and Raut. Meanwhile, in a post on her Instagram account, the Luka Chuppi actress said she was "proud, honoured and beyond excited" to join the cast of the film.
Om Raut had already started the shoot of Adipurush¸but a major fire broke out on the first day of the shoot. According to reports, the fire was soon brought under control but not before considerable damage to the film’s grandly-constructed set and props. Neither of the lead actors, Prabhas nor Saif, was present on the set at the time of the accident. It was reported that the incident happened due to a short circuit. The damage to the film's set was a topic of concern for the producers - Prasad Sutar and T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar.
The actress will also be seen in Akshay Kumar-starrer Bachchan Pandey and producer Dinesh Vijan' upcoming movie Mimi.
Sunny, who made his debut with a brief role in Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji but is best known for Luv Ranjan's 2018 film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, said he was thrilled to be part of the movie. "Joining the celebration of good over evil, excited to be a part of the #Adipurush family," he said.
Adipurush is a follow-up to Raut's blockbuster movie Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which starred Ajay Devgn and Saif.
The film is scheduled to release in theatres on August 11, 2022.
