Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar believes that face masks will soon be fashion accessories and social status like watches, handbags, etc. In the coronavirus-hit globe, things aren’t easing out yet. And therefore, masks have emerged as an indispensable part of one’s outdoor attire.
Many states in India including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab have made wearing masks in surroundings compulsory. The Union ministry of health and family welfare has advised people to use homemade face masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Thus, masks are in demand more than ever.
In such times of need, Indian designers have gone from high fashion to high function stitching potentially life-saving face masks with a skill for style. A designer who is known for her customised trousseaus for brides and grooms and artistically structured cuts has started to make a starkly different accessory, face masks.
To contribute her bit in the war against coronavirus, Nivedita Saboo, a leading fashion designer from Mumbai has designed heat fused, steam sterilised, sanitised and reusable protective face mask.
Nivedita is a gold medalist from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). She has a rich portfolio and showcased her skills at the events like Paris Fashion Week, Hong Kong and London Bridal Week, to name a few.
‘MASKS ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF TODAY’S LIFE’
The designer believes that coronavirus is a long drawn battle. Masks have now actually become an integral part of our lives. Talking to Sakal Times, Nivedita said, “I saw people making huge queue in front of medical shops for buying masks. At some moments, there was a shortage of medical masks, and also there were ill-fitted masks available in many stores. In order to contribute somewhat from Nivedita Saboo Cares which truly believes in bringing technology, heritage craftsmanship and knowledge of pattern making all together designed these special masks to empower the human lives.”
“Initially we did thorough research to make a unique mask. We used 3D pattern cutting, including the fusing polypropylene as well as sterilising technique to create these reusable and face fitted masks. Overall it’s just a perfect face mask”, she added.
The masks are sanitised with 83 per cent of ethyl alcohol also they are fused under high temperature and pressured with special German fusings. The 3D pattern helps to ensure you get a perfect fit with soft and stretchable fabric loops for extra comfort behind the ear. The masks have been tested in a medical laboratory as well.
Kareena and Karishma Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Vivek Oberoi and other celebrities have recognised and reinforced Nivedita’s brilliance in technique, design and Haute Couture! Opulence, luxury and elegance are the heartbeats of her design sensibilities. Now she wants to contribute meaningfully to the society and alleviate suffering during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
“The company is now producing hundreds of thousands of masks per week. We have received an overwhelming response as soon as we displayed it on our social media platforms. Many corporate companies are in touch with us. We have already delivered the masks to a number of cities including Mumbai and Pune where the coronavirus pandemic is worse”, Nivedita concluded.
