Pune: A young man from Kalewadi, Uddhav Ashok Burungale, found himself baffled when he received a summons from a Lok Adalat (people's court) for a no-parking fine in Mumbai. The perplexing part is that the fine was issued for a period two years before he purchased the vehicle.

Burungale, originally from Khadki village in Daund Taluka, Pune district, purchased a new motorcycle (MH 42 BK 2110) on April 7, 2023, registered to his village address.

Despite this, he recently received a letter dated July 3, 2023, instructing him to appear before the Lok Adalat. The letter cited a no-parking violation in Kanjurmarg, Mumbai, dated November 30, 2021.

Burungale, who has never taken his motorcycle to Mumbai since purchasing it, was bewildered by the notice. The discrepancy has sparked conversations across Pimpri-Chinchwad about the odd handling by the traffic police.

When contacted, the local traffic police stated that since the fine was issued in Mumbai, they could not comment on the matter. They assured that the fine would be revoked once the documents are reviewed at the Lok Adalat.

Recently, the request made by Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate regarding towing vans to manage vehicles parked illegally in no-parking zones has been approved by the state government.

Previously, the police relied on the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation for this task, but their contract expired last year.

With no alternative in place, the police were unable to remove vehicles parked without drivers in designated no-parking areas. Now, the state government has sanctioned the implementation of a towing van project under a design, build, operate, and maintain (DBOM) contract.

Vidarbha Infotech Private Limited from Nagpur has been contracted for the project.
