Pune: An incident of firing was reported near Konark Society in Keshavnagar, raising concerns among local residents.

Upon investigation, the police discovered that the firing was not from a conventional firearm but from an airgun. The incident occurred around 4:15 PM on Thursday (August 22), and two individuals have been taken into custody by the Mundhwa Police.

According to the information received, a gunshot sound was heard near Renuka Mata Temple, adjacent to Konark Society in Keshavnagar.

Residents informed the police control room immediately. Assistant Police Inspector Mali from Mundhwa Police Station and Keshavnagar Beat Marshal arrived at the scene.

Upon inspection, they found three airgun pellets. Further investigation revealed that the firing was done from an apartment nearby using an airgun.

The police seized the airgun and took the individuals involved into custody, bringing them to Mundhwa Police Station. Senior police officers also arrived at the station upon receiving the information and are conducting an inquiry.

Senior Police Inspector Neelkanth Jagtap of Mundhwa Police Station stated that a retired senior citizen from Tata Steel lives in the apartment with his wife. He recently purchased a new airgun on August 17.

While practicing with the gun, it accidentally fired near the window, and the pellets exited through the window. An investigation is ongoing.

Experts emphasize the importance of practicing safety precautions while handling airguns. It is crucial to ensure that the practice area is secure and that the gun is never pointed toward a window or any area where people might be present.
