Pune: Pune is grappling with severe flooding after relentless overnight rainfall, with 370 millimeters of rain recorded in the last 24 hours.

The situation has led to water entering hundreds of homes and the Khadakwasla Dam releasing water at 40000 cusecs. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar are closely monitoring the unfolding crisis.

Chief Minister Shinde has urged citizens to prioritize their safety and remain calm. "I have been in contact with the Pune District Collector, the Municipal Commissioners of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the Indian Army Officers.

The administration has reviewed the situation and has been instructed to remain vigilant. Rescue and relief operations are rapidly underway," Shinde stated.

Waterlogging has left residents stranded in some areas of Pune. Efforts by the NDRF and municipal authorities are ongoing to rescue them. "If necessary, we will airlift residents.

Relevant agencies have been contacted for this purpose. All administrative officers are on the ground, ensuring residents are moved to safe locations," the Chief Minister added.

"Assistance will reach wherever it is needed. Orders have been given to the district collector. People should not worry; the administration is here to help," the Chief Minister assured.

"Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is personally in the control room, overseeing the situation in Pune. He is directing officials to provide all necessary assistance, including meal arrangements," Shinde informed.

Heavy rains have inundated Pune overnight. Water was released from Khadakwasla Dam at midnight without prior notice to residents near the river.
