Pimpri: In a significant legal event held at the Akurdi Court in Pimpri on the 29th, the National Lok Adalat successfully settled a total of 2,933 cases related to property tax and water tax. This included both pre-registered cases and cases already filed in court.
The event resulted in a total recovery of ₹3.06 crore, a major financial achievement for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
The Lok Adalat was organized in compliance with the directives of the National Legal Services Authority, the State Legal Services Authority, and under the leadership of District Legal Services Authority President and District & Sessions Judge M. K. Mahajan.
The proceedings aimed to encourage mutual understanding and swift resolution of disputes, thus helping alleviate the backlog of cases related to municipal taxes.
The inaugural address was delivered by panel head and Civil & Criminal Judge V. S. Damre. In his address, Judge Damre appealed to the public to resolve their cases through compromise and cooperation rather than prolonged legal battles, which would be in everyone’s best interests.
During the Lok Adalat, a staggering 18,737 pre-registered cases concerning property tax and water tax within PCMC's jurisdiction were brought forward.
Out of these, 2,890 cases were successfully resolved, leading to a recovery of ₹2.91 crore. Similarly, 1,086 cases specifically concerning property tax were brought to the Lok Adalat as pre-registered cases. Of these, 41 cases were resolved, and ₹14.37 lakh was recovered.
In total, 2,931 cases across both categories (pre-registered and filed) were resolved during the event, with the total recovery amounting to ₹3.06 crore. Additionally, two civil cases were also settled amicably, showcasing the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Prominent panel members who contributed to the smooth functioning of the Lok Adalat included Advocate Divya Sanhita, Devendra Dixit, Dilip Mota, Anil Khamkar, Sharad Jadhav, Sanjay Gorge, N. K. Patil, and L. O. Kamble.
