Pune: In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old woman police constable, Anushka Kedar, currently serving in the Pune Rural Police Force, jumped into the Indrayani River in Alandi on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM, and efforts to rescue her are still ongoing.
Anushka, who was stationed at the Pune Rural Headquarters and resided in the Dighi-Wadmukhwadi area, reportedly jumped into the river from the Garud Pillar on the bridge leading towards Chakan.
A young man who witnessed the incident immediately jumped in after her in an attempt to save her. However, due to the strong current in the river, Anushka was swept away before she could be rescued.
The Alandi Police, who are leading the investigation, believe that Anushka may have taken this drastic step due to personal issues in her private life. The fire brigade has been deployed to search for her, but as of now, she remains unaccounted for.
The police are continuing their investigation to understand the circumstances leading to this incident.
