Pune: Union Minister Amit Shah arrived in Pune on Saturday (July 20) to review preparations for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, which are set to take place in the coming months.
Shah is scheduled to hold discussions with senior BJP leaders about the party’s performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections and to strategize for the upcoming state elections.
BJP leaders Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Minister Chandrakant Patil welcomed Shah at the airport.
On Sunday (July 21), Shah will convene a meeting with the BJP core committee and key office bearers to deliberate on the party’s strategy. The BJP faced challenges in states like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra during the Lok Sabha elections, failing to achieve expected results.
With the re-establishment of the NDA government post-Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has shifted its focus to the upcoming Assembly elections. The meeting was postponed due to the recent passing of State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule's mother.
Despite defections from Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray's parties, the BJP's performance in Maharashtra was not significantly improved.
However, the BJP saw success in the recent Legislative Council elections, securing nine out of eleven seats, while the opposition MVA suffered from internal rebellions.
The upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections are anticipated to be a fierce contest between the Mahayuti (Grand Alliance) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
As Shah gathers with senior leaders, state officials, central government ministers, and other key figures on Sunday, new strategies and alliances are expected to be discussed in light of the current political scenario in Maharashtra.
