Pune: The Bombay High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Arun Kumar Singh, accused in the Kalyaninagar accident case involving the tampering of blood samples of a minor passenger.
The case revolves around an alleged conspiracy where blood samples were switched to protect the minor involved in the accident.
Singh had previously applied for bail in the district court, which was denied. He then approached the High Court, where he was initially granted interim bail. However, on Wednesday, October 23, the High Court dismissed his plea, raising the likelihood of his imminent arrest.
The court directed the police to carry out the necessary investigative actions regarding the case. Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hiray strongly opposed Singh’s bail, emphasizing that Singh's custody is crucial for the continuation of the investigation. Senior advocates Abad Ponda and Abid Mulani defended the accused.
The investigation revealed that Ashish Mittal, acting on Singh’s instructions, provided his own blood sample instead of the actual minor’s.
Previously arrested accused Aditya Sood and Ashish Mittal had allegedly bribed Sassoon Hospital’s then Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shreehari Halnor and Forensic Department Head Dr. Ajay Taware to manipulate the blood sample results. Sood gave his own blood sample in place of one minor, while Mittal did the same for the other minor involved.
Earlier, the bail applications of both Sood and Mittal were also rejected after it was revealed that they were involved in the tampering. The two had initially fled the state but returned to Pune when they learned that police were tracking them.
Both were arrested upon their return, and their bail pleas were subsequently denied. The court's decision was based on witness testimonies and forensic reports presented by Adv. Hiray, confirming their involvement in the blood sample tampering.
