Pune: In the wake of a disturbing incident in Badlapur, the state’s education department has ramped up safety protocols for students.

Effective immediately, all schools are required to install CCTV cameras both within school premises and around the vicinity. This move aims to address rising concerns about student safety, particularly in light of recent unsettling events.

The education department has issued strict orders mandating the installation of these security measures. According to the directives from Under Secretary Pramod Patil, private schools must complete the installation of CCTV cameras in key areas within one month.

Failure to comply will result in actions such as the suspension of grants or even the revocation of the school’s accreditation. Government and local authority schools are also urged to prioritize the installation of cameras.

Additional guidelines include rigorous background checks for non-teaching staff before their appointment. Schools are now required to obtain character verification reports from local police for all new hires, including security guards, cleaning staff, and bus drivers.

Post-hire, detailed information and photographs of these individuals must be submitted to local law enforcement.

In the event of any safety incidents involving students, schools are mandated to report the issue to education authorities within 24 hours. Any attempt to conceal such incidents will lead to severe penalties against the school management, staff, and institution.

Furthermore, schools must install complaint boxes for students and establish Sakhi Savitri Committees to address grievances. There will also be disciplinary actions against principals for negligence in implementing these measures. Schools are required to review CCTV footage three times a week to ensure compliance and safety.
