Pune: Yerawada Police filed a case against the owner and manager of Ballr Pub in Kalyani Nagar following a late-night confrontation during an inspection for closing time violations.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Tuesday (October 29) when Assistant Police Inspector Mahesh Lamkhede, on night patrol from Yerawada Police Station, found Baller Pub still operating despite the mandated closing time.
When the police team arrived, they found the pub crowded with patrons being served food and alcohol well past the permitted hours. Officer Lamkhede directed the pub staff to shut down operations for the night.
However, the pub manager reportedly resisted, arguing with the officers and stating that they would contact the Police Commissioner to lodge a complaint against them.
Assistant Inspector Lamkhede filed an official complaint at Yerawada Police Station, leading to charges against the pub owner, Heramb Shelke, and the manager for obstruction of police duties and interference in government operations.
The incident has brought attention to the enforcement of closing time regulations for establishments in the Kalyani Nagar area.
Recently the Escada Bar in Viman Nagar had found itself in legal trouble after being caught operating until 3 AM, well beyond the government-imposed limits.
Despite prior warnings and a citywide clampdown following the high-profile Porsche accident in Kalyani Nagar, the hotel continued to serve customers into the early morning hours. As a result, the Airport police registered a case against four individuals, including two of the hotel’s owners.
The case was filed against hotel owners Sandeep Sahastrabuddhe and Sumit Chaudhary, along with managers Akshay Khilare and Himanshu Chaudhary.
