Pune: A tragic discovery was made at the Agricultural Science Center in Malegaon Khurd, as a deceased newborn girl was found in the women’s restroom, sparking shock and concern in the community. The incident was reported on the afternoon of July 16th.
Krishna Hanumant Tavare, the assistant manager of the center and a resident of Malegaon Khurd, immediately reported the incident to the police upon discovering the newborn. Acting swiftly on Krishna’s complaint, the Malegaon police have registered a case against an unknown individual.
Initial investigations indicate that the newborn was abandoned with the intent to conceal her birth and cause her death by neglecting to provide necessary care.
Observations suggest that the baby girl might have been left in the restroom shortly after birth, leading to her untimely demise. The incident has raised significant concerns about the circumstances surrounding the abandonment and the factors leading to such a desperate act.
Sub-Inspector Sanjay Nagargoje, the investigating officer, stated that the police are exploring various angles, including whether the baby was born out of illicit relations or if she was abandoned due to being a girl. The investigation aims to identify and apprehend the person responsible for this tragic act.
Local authorities have urged citizens to come forward with information to assist in the investigation. The case has highlighted the urgent need for better support systems and awareness to prevent such incidents in the future.
This heartbreaking incident follows a similar case last month in Kalwa, Mumbai. A three to four-month-old infant was found dead in a sewer chamber in the Vitawa area.
