Pune: Six armed robbers broke into the house of a police officer in Shel-Pimpalgaon, Khed taluka, and launched a violent attack when the officer tried to defend his home. The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 13, around 2:45 AM.
The officer, identified as Aniket Pandit Daundkar, a 25-year-old serving at Bhosari Police Station, was seriously injured in the altercation. Daundkar, who was asleep in his bungalow with his family, woke up to find the robbers inside his home.
The assailants were in the process of stealing gold jewelry and cash when Daundkar confronted them. One of the robbers, armed with a machete, attacked the officer, aiming for his head. However, Daundkar managed to shield himself by using his arm, but in doing so, suffered severe injuries to both his arm and back.
After the assault, the robbers escaped with valuables that included a gold necklace weighing 17 grams, valued at ₹42,500, and a gold ring weighing 5 grams, worth ₹12,500.
The total amount stolen is estimated at ₹55,000. Daundkar was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Bhosari, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.
According to local reports, the industrial city has been witnessing a steady rise in various types of crimes, including murders, shootings, sexual assaults, theft, and trafficking of drugs and firearms.
Assistant Police Inspector Zarhad is currently leading the investigation into the robbery, but no arrests have been made yet. The police are working to track down the suspects involved in the incident.
