Pune: In a distressing incident that sent shockwaves through the city, three minor girls from Shivtejanagar, Bibwewadi, went missing in broad daylight, prompting an intense search operation by the Pune Police.
The girls, aged 12, 15, and 15, were last seen around 1:30 PM on September 2, 2024, buying household items at a local grocery store before walking towards VIT College road.
When the girls failed to return home, their families conducted a frantic search but eventually sought police help when they couldn't be found.
The news of three girls disappearing at the same time set off alarm bells across the Pune Police Department, mobilizing officers from across the city.
Photographs of the missing girls were circulated widely, and their friends were questioned, but the first night and the following day yielded no clues.
With the assistance of technical analysis, police traced the girls to Ambivli in Kalyan, Thane district. Senior Police Inspector Mangal Modhave quickly relayed this crucial information to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, who coordinated with Thane police authorities.
Khadakpada Police Station was notified, and they swiftly moved to detain the girls based on the descriptions and photos provided. The girls were safely brought back to Bibwewadi Police Station, where they explained that they had wandered off without a clear destination in mind.
This successful operation was a result of coordinated efforts led by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Police Commissioner Manoj Patil, and Deputy Commissioner of Police R Raja, with support from Assistant Police Inspector Dhanyakumar Godse.
The on-ground search and rescue were spearheaded by Senior Police Inspector Mangal Modhave, along with Police Inspector Manojkumar Londhe, Assistant Police Inspector Vidya Sawant, Police Sub-Inspector Ashok Yevale, and constables Vishal Jadhav, Pratik Karanje, and Varsha Thombre.
The safe recovery of the girls provided much-needed relief to their families and the community, highlighting the effectiveness of swift police action in urgent cases involving minors.
