Pune: The shocking murder in Bavdhan has drawn attention after it was revealed that a government teacher from Bihar brutally killed his wife’s lover following the circulation of incriminating photos on social media.
The suspect, Rajiv Kumar Nathuniprasad Singh (33), traveled from Bihar to Pune and murdered Praveen Kumar Bhola Mahato (26) in a fit of rage after discovering his wife's illicit relationship.
The incident came to light in the early hours of Wednesday when Hinjewadi police were alerted about a gruesome murder at Green Dream Nursery, located on NDA Road.
The police found the body of Praveen Kumar Mahato with his throat slit inside a shed. According to police, the relationship between Mahato and Rajiv’s wife had been ongoing for some time, and photographs of the two had recently gone viral on social media, which reportedly triggered the violent response from Rajiv.
A Calculated Murder Plot
Rajiv, a schoolteacher by profession, had been going through a divorce with his wife when he came across the photos of her and Praveen.
Consumed with rage, Rajiv left Bihar and arrived in Pune with the intent to confront his wife's lover. Around 1 AM on the day of the crime, Rajiv found Praveen asleep in a shed on the nursery premises and fatally slit his throat using a knife.
After committing the murder, Rajiv, along with his accomplice Dheeraj Kumar, tried to flee to Mumbai and eventually planned to escape to Bihar.
However, police teams led by Senior Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat from Hinjewadi Police Station had already begun tracking the suspects based on technical surveillance and intelligence. With the assistance of Kalyan police, Rajiv and his accomplice were apprehended near Manpada in Thane district while they were en route to Bihar.
During interrogation, Rajiv confessed that after killing Praveen, he had also planned to murder his wife upon reaching Bihar. The swift and coordinated police operation was praised for preventing further violence.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey and involved a dedicated team including Senior Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat, Assistant Inspector Prashant Mahale, Sub-Inspector Bandu Marne, and a number of police constables.
