Pune: The state is set to introduce an affordable bike taxi service, with applicants required to invest six lakh rupees. This includes a one lakh rupee fee and a five lakh rupee security deposit.
Applicants must also own 100 two-wheelers and adhere to aggregator rules, which include passenger insurance and other essential regulations.
The state government has approved the proposal to start bike taxi services. Following government directives, the transport department has submitted regulations to the state government.
Senior officials have informed that bike taxis will hit the roads within the next month and a half.
The Jha Committee's report suggested that bike taxis be permitted in areas with limited transport options or heavy traffic congestion. However, the state government has approved bike taxis for both rural and urban areas.
"If an individual needs to travel, bike taxis offer lower fares. Additionally, bike taxis occupy less space compared to rickshaws or taxis. Since the driver will come to the doorstep, it saves passengers time. People will receive prompt service and can reach their destinations quickly," said a senior transport department official.
Regulations:
Rules for rickshaws will apply.
Fares will be lower than rickshaws.
Registration in the transport category is required.
Number plates will be yellow.
A specific color will be designated for the two-wheelers.
Drivers must wear a badge.
The badge will be issued only after police verification of the driver.
