Pune: A body was discovered on the terrace of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment General Hospital, prompting an immediate investigation and raising alarms regarding hospital security.
The identity of the deceased—whether a patient, a relative, or an outsider—remains unknown as of now. Following the discovery, the body was sent to Sassoon Hospital for autopsy after officials from the Lashkar (Cantonment) Police Station visited the scene.
On the morning of October 21, hospital staff noticed a foul odor while cleaning the terrace and subsequently found the body. They promptly reported the incident to Dr. Usha Tapase, the Medical Resident Officer, along with other staff members.
The hospital administration immediately informed the Lashkar Police Station about the situation, and the police arrived to conduct their investigation.
A bottle was found beside the body, but the hospital administration could not ascertain whether the individual had ended his life or if foul play was involved.
Questions are being raised about how the individual accessed the terrace, particularly given that the door leading to it is broken, allowing unrestricted access at any time, especially at night.
The Pune Cantonment Board has yet to provide any clarification or comment regarding the incident, leading to concerns about accountability and the safety protocols in place at the hospital.
Dr. Usha Tapase stated that she had recently resumed work after being treated for pneumonia in the ICU. She emphasized that the hospital acted promptly by notifying the police once the body was discovered. The police conducted their investigation, and the body has been sent to Sassoon Hospital for an autopsy.
