Pune: Two arrested accused in the Bopdev ghat gang-rape case have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the court, while retaining their right to police custody. First Class Judicial Magistrate S H. Atkare passed the order.
The third accomplice of the accused, Bapya Gosavi alias Somnath Yadav alias Suraj Dashrath Gosavi, is yet to be traced. The police custody of the arrested accused was reserved for joint interrogation of the three accused.
The accused, Shoaib alias Akhtar Babu Shaikh (27), a resident of Adarshnagar, Mantarwadi, Uruli Devachi, and Chandrakumar Raviprasad Kanojia (20), a resident of Holevasti, Undri, were sent to judicial custody.
Investigations had revealed that Shoaib, the main accused in the case, had tried to mislead the police by giving the name of himself and Bapya Gosavi falsely. The court had remanded them in police custody till Friday. He was re-produced in court after his term expired.
Where did the accused come from before torturing the girl? Shoaib and Chandrakumar also showed the police the locations where they had stopped after committing the crime.
These locations were surveyed. One of them brought the slippers worn by Chandrakumar while committing the crime to the police.
The third accomplice of the accused is yet to be traced and the police are on the lookout for him. The public prosecutor Amrapali Kasture sought judicial custody of the accused.
