Pune: A major accident was narrowly avoided in Dhayari on Sunday morning when a PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd) bus lost control after its brakes failed.

The bus, traveling from the DSK area towards Hadapsar Bhekarainagar, crashed into a tin compound near Chavan Baug, located at the foothills of DSK, at around 7:30 AM. Thankfully, no passengers were injured in the incident.

The brake failure occurred as the bus descended a steep slope on the road between DSK and Dhayari. Unable to stop, the bus veered off its path and collided with a tin compound.

It then became lodged in a pit and was further stopped by a tree, preventing the situation from escalating into a major accident. Local residents were quick to point out that a large MSEB transformer was located nearby, which could have led to a more dangerous scenario had the bus not been stopped in time.

Milind Chutke, a resident of the area, noted that the bus was not heavily loaded with passengers at the time of the incident. He also described the road as narrow and steep, creating challenges for both buses and other vehicles, especially when they approach from opposite directions.

“The road needs to be widened to avoid future accidents like this,” said Varsha Borkar, another local resident, emphasizing the urgency of road improvements in this area.

While no injuries were reported, the incident highlights the growing concerns over road safety in the Dhayari-DSK area, particularly the need for better infrastructure and maintenance of vehicles.
