Pune: A 55-year-old farmer, Balasaheb Dattatray Dere from Varulwadi, lost his life after a collision between his motorcycle and a rickshaw carrying foreign tourists from Britain.
The accident occurred on September 16 at around 10 AM near the Chedoba temple on the Narayangaon-Otur road in Dhangarwadi.
According to the police, the tourists had arrived in India for sightseeing and had toured Kerala prior to traveling to Maharashtra. The group of tourists had rented three rickshaws in Kerala for their journey. This morning, they were en route to Ozar via the Narayangaon-Otur road when the accident occurred.
Balasaheb Dere, along with Sanjay Ramesh Jadhav (37), a resident of Narayangaon, was on his motorcycle, traveling towards Umbraj to visit relatives.
At approximately 10 AM, one of the three rickshaws carrying the tourists rear-ended the motorcycle, leading to the fatal accident. Balasaheb Dere died on the spot, while Sanjay Jadhav sustained injuries.
Following the accident, Sanjay Jadhav filed a report at the Narayangaon Police Station. The police launched an immediate investigation into the incident.
Reports suggest that after the collision, the tourists continued their journey toward Nashik. However, later in the evening, the Nashik police detained the tourists involved in the accident.
Assistant Police Inspector Mahadev Shelar confirmed the incident and stated that further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the accident. Local residents expressed their sorrow over the death of the farmer.
