Pune: Bund Garden Police have successfully recovered 51 stolen mobile phones worth ₹5 lakh, all of which were reported missing on the "Lost and Found" section of the Pune Police’s website.
The recovered devices were stolen from high-traffic areas such as Pune Railway Station, the ST Bus Stand, the District Collector's Office, and Sassoon Hospital, which are notorious for frequent mobile thefts.
The recovery operation began after the Central Government’s Department of Telecommunications received several complaints regarding lost and stolen mobile phones through the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal.
Acting on these complaints, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar ordered an investigation to track down the stolen devices.
The Cyber Unit at Bund Garden Police Station, led by Police Sub-Inspector Parmeshwar Garkal, worked diligently to trace the phones using their IMEI number and SDR (Subscriber Detail Record) technology, which helped pinpoint their locations.
A dedicated team, including Constables Vishnu Sarvade, Sagar Ghorpade, and Nilesh Palve, played a key role in the operation. Their efforts led to the successful retrieval of mobile phones worth an estimated ₹5 lakh.
This success has bolstered the reputation of Pune Police’s cybercrime unit and the city's overall law enforcement capabilities.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of top police officials, including Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Pravinkumar Patil, Deputy Commissioner Smartana Patil, and Assistant Commissioner Deepak Nikam.
Senior Inspector Ravindra Gaikwad and Crime Inspector Sampatrao Raut also provided crucial guidance throughout the investigation.
