Pimpri-Chinchwad: A businessman was allegedly attacked by family members demanding an extortion payment, sparking two cross-complaints of attempted murder as a family land dispute escalated into violence over the weekend.

Nilesh Maruti Gaikwad, a 41-year-old businessman, reported to Pimpri Police that on Friday night he and an acquaintance, Akash Rathod, were approached by four individuals led by Kundan Umesh Gaikwad, 24, who demanded a payment of one lakh rupees.

When Gaikwad refused, the group reportedly attacked him with a cement block, which he managed to avoid. The incident took place at approximately 10:30 p.m. near Amit Medical in Morwadi.

The accused allegedly issued a death threat before leaving, according to police. Assistant Police Inspector Pandey is leading the investigation.

Following this, a counter-complaint was filed by Kundan Umesh Gaikwad, also a resident of Pimpri, who accused Nilesh Gaikwad and several others, including Akash Rathod, of a retaliatory attack on Saturday.

This confrontation allegedly took place near an immersion pond at Nana Nani Park in Pimpri’s Lal Topi Nagar, where Gaikwad claims that Nilesh, Rathod, and others attacked him with a sickle, resulting in head injuries as he fled the scene. Police Sub-Inspector Ubale is investigating this case.

Both incidents appear to stem from a long-standing feud over ancestral land in Awasari Budruk, Ambegaon Taluka, which Kundan reportedly questioned after it was left out of family documentation.
