Pune: In response to the extensive damage caused by heavy rains, Pune's municipal corporation has launched a special telephone service for citizens to report potholes.
With the city's roads heavily impacted, the new service aims to streamline the process of identifying and repairing potholes. Citizens can now report potholes by calling 020-25501083 or 9043271003.
Once a complaint is received, the road department will take prompt action to address the issue. This initiative comes after the city faced significant criticism for the poor condition of its roads.
In the past three days, the municipal corporation has repaired 1,224 potholes on major roads and patched 153 others. Roads with severe damage will undergo resurfacing, a project that will require substantial financial investment from the municipal corporation.
Meanwhile, with the cessation of rain, the municipal corporation has begun repairing potholes, filling 1,224 potholes on major roads within three days.
Additionally, 153 potholes have been patched. Roads with a large number of potholes will undergo resurfacing. The municipal corporation will have to spend several crores of rupees for this work.
Over the past year, extensive excavation work was carried out by various departments of the municipal corporation, government, and semi-government institutions to provide infrastructure.
This work and the continuous rains have caused the roads to deteriorate. Many potholes have been observed on asphalt roads.
However, due to the ongoing rain, road repair work was limited. Therefore, a campaign to fill potholes at night was launched from Saturday (August 3).
The municipal corporation's road department focused on filling the potholes and performing patchwork. Cement is being used to fill the potholes, and cement is also being used for patchwork. Many potholes and patchwork have been completed with the help of asphalt material, according to Aniruddha Pawaskar, the chief engineer of the road department.
