According to police, the victim was practicing with other trainees on the ground when Vaman Gavhane called her to the office, saying her mother had called. He then locked the door and committed the crime. The victim was hesitant to report the incident to her parents, fearing consequences.

However, after encouragement from fellow trainees, the victim informed her mother on September 13. The mother immediately filed a complaint with the Khed police, who arrested Gavhane on Friday (September 13) night under sections of molestation and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The police have stated that the academy primarily provides training for police recruitment and other competitive exams, and many students come from other tehsils and districts for training.
