Pune: Valuables worth Rs 19.13 crore have been seized in Kolhapur region till November 10.
These include Rs 6.64 crore in cash, illegal liquor worth Rs 2.83 crore, 113 kg of ganja worth Rs 22 lakh, gutkha worth Rs 1.87 crore, 9 kg of gold worth Rs 7.5 crore and 60 kg of silver, Special Inspector General of Police Sunil Phulari said.
The model code of conduct came into effect from October 15 in view of the assembly elections.
In view of this, instructions were given to the Superintendents of Police of five districts, including Pune Rural in Kolhapur range, to take effective action against illegal trade, weapons, drugs, liquor, illegal cash, gifts. Effective preventive action has been taken in this regard.
The three districts of Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur Rural are bordered by the state of Karnataka. As many as 36 border check posts are operational in three districts to check illegal smuggling from the state of Karnataka.
Special Inspector General of Police Phulari made surprise visits to the inter-state border check posts of Kagal, Shivnakwadi, Mahisal in Sangli and Katral in Solapur Rural. Joint teams of regional transport department, goods and services tax, excise department, forest department and anti-narcotics department have taken action at the spot.

Measures have been taken by the police department to conduct the elections in a free and fair environment.
