Pune: The Election Commission of India has introduced the cVIGIL mobile app to curb electoral malpractices and report violations of the Model Code of Conduct during the upcoming assembly elections.

This app allows citizens to easily report misconduct during the election process, while ensuring their identity remains confidential. The district administration shared these details as part of efforts to increase transparency and accountability in the elections.

To ensure that all candidates strictly follow the code of conduct, the Election Commission will now rely on citizens to help identify and report irregularities.

Users of the cVIGIL app can upload photos or two-minute videos documenting violations, provided they have internet access and GPS-enabled smartphones.

Once a report is filed, the information is forwarded to the district administration, which then notifies the respective assembly constituency. A special flying squad is then dispatched to the location to investigate the complaint.

The app determines the location through GPS, so complainants do not need to provide additional information. For voters, the VHA app offers features such as checking names on the voter list, locating polling stations, and downloading voter ID cards.

The KYC-ECI app, meanwhile, provides detailed information about candidates, including their affidavits and any criminal records.

Income Tax Department has initiated a proactive campaign to prevent the misuse of funds by candidates during the assembly election period. The Pune office of the department has established a control room to monitor illegal activities related to election spending.
