Pune: Viman Nagar's condition has deteriorated significantly due to unresolved civic issues, including garbage on footpaths, overgrown grass, damaged roads with scattered gravel, and unauthorized advertisements.
Residents, frustrated by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) failure to address these problems, have expressed their anger, with social activist Kaneez Sukhrani taking the matter to the Consumer Court under the slogan, "No services, no property tax."
Despite being home to numerous malls, five-star hotels, colleges, a bustling market, and several IT companies, Viman Nagar suffers from poor road conditions, beggars occupying public spaces, and unusable pedestrian paths due to waterlogging and overgrowth.
The situation has persisted for years, and while the PMC has made some promises, action remains slow and ineffective.
The road leading to the MHADA area is unusable due to knee-high grass on the footpaths and scattered garbage. Hundreds of beggars have set up makeshift huts on the roads in Viman Nagar Chowk and the footpaths near CCD Chowk.
The pedestrian underpass in Viman Nagar has become unusable due to waterlogging. The lack of cleanliness in the MHADA society area has led to health issues among many residents. Piles of garbage at Ganpati Mandir Chowk and hotel waste being dumped on the road behind Anand Vidyaniketan have created health hazards for the local community.
Hanumant Sawali,Health Inspector, Viman Nagar said, "The overgrown grass on footpaths will be removed and cleanliness will be maintained."
Sanjay Pol, Assistant Commissioner, Nagar Road Regional Office, says, "I have recently been appointed and have not yet inspected Viman Nagar. I will gather information on all the issues and gradually address them one by one."
Kaniz Sukhrani, Social Activist, Viman Nagar says, "Despite paying taxes, we do not receive proper services. Hence, I have filed a petition in court stating, "No services, no tax." The Pune Municipal Corporation has failed in road maintenance, footpath cleanliness, and traffic management. As elections near, politicians only engage in politics but do not solve these problems."
