Pune: Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) has announced a price increase of ₹1.50 per kilogram for CNG, effective from midnight on Tuesday, July 9.

This change will affect Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjawadi areas, where CNG vehicle owners will now have to pay ₹85 per kilogram, putting a slight strain on their wallets.

The rising demand for CNG, coupled with a local gas shortage and increased costs of imported gas, has prompted this price hike. CNG prices, which had remained stable for some time, started to rise post-elections.

On October 2 last year, CNG prices increased by ₹4 from ₹87 to ₹91, followed by another ₹1 hike, bringing the price to ₹92 per kilogram.

However, ahead of the elections on March 6, the prices were reduced by ₹2.50 per kilogram. Now, the prices are set to rise again. Until Tuesday, July 9, CNG vehicle owners were paying ₹83.50 per kilogram, but from midnight onwards, the price will be ₹85 per kilogram.
