Pune: A young man has been charged with rape and deception after allegedly luring a fellow college student into a romantic relationship and then refusing to marry her.

The victim has filed a complaint at Vishrambaug police station, detailing a series of incidents that occurred over six months across Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur.

A 23-year-old woman from Atpadi taluka lodged a complaint at Vishrambaug police station on Friday. Based on her complaint, Vijay Tanaji Dombale (age 24, resident of Hivatad, Atpadi taluka, Sangli district) has been charged under IPC sections 354, 354(D), 376(2)(N), and 506.

The incidents occurred between June 18, 2023, and December 18, 2023, in Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur.

According to information provided by Assistant Police Inspector Vishal Patil, the accused and the complainant are from rural areas of Atpadi taluka. They are friends and study at an Arts and Commerce College.

Vijay Dombale proposed to the girl in Kolhapur, luring her into a romantic relationship. He then brought her to Pune for an outing. While drinking coffee at a hotel near Shaniwar Wada, he made lewd advances and committed acts that would offend a woman's dignity.

He subsequently took her to a lodge and forcibly established physical relations with her, taking photos on his mobile phone during the act. When the complainant asked about marriage, Vijay threatened to leak the explicit photos.

The victim initially filed a complaint in Sangli, which was later transferred to Vishrambaug police station on Friday. The complaint also mentions that the accused committed similar offenses at lodges in Satara and Kolhapur. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Vishal Patil.
