Pune: In a late-night incident in Chinchwad, a young college student was arrested after allegedly assaulting a traffic police officer who stopped him for riding his motorcycle at high speed and honking loudly.
The accused, identified as 22-year-old Prathamesh Shamsundar Kawade, a hotel management student, was charged with obstruction of government work and assault on a public servant.
The incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. on Monday at a T-junction near Kakade Park, on the route from Podar School to Shivaji Uday Mandal. Police Constable Lavangpuri Puri, on duty at the time, heard Kavad’s motorcycle racing down the road with continuous loud honking, disturbing the otherwise quiet surroundings.
Acting on the disturbance, Constable Puri intercepted Kavad and asked for his name and address. In response, Kavad reportedly became aggressive, refusing to identify himself, and allegedly yelled, "What authority do you have? Who are you to stop my vehicle?" before grabbing the collar of the officer’s uniform and using abusive language.
Upon being taken to Chinchwad Police Station, Kavad continued his aggressive behavior, verbally abusing Constable Puri and Police Constable Gaikwad.
Following the incident, Kavad was arrested, with charges filed for hindering official work and assaulting police personnel. Assistant Police Inspector Kembalkar is overseeing the investigation.
