Pune: Minister Chandrakant Patil has directed the Municipal Corporation to conduct a comprehensive survey and submit proposals for constructing protective walls for the drains in flood-prone areas of Pune's suburbs, including Someshwarwadi in Pashan and the Baner-Balewadi region.

The directive comes in response to the recent flood-like conditions resulting from the absence of such walls.

Minister Patil visited the affected areas on Friday, where he interacted with residents and assessed the extent of the damage. Accompanying him were Assistant Commissioner of Aundh-Baner Regional Office Girish Dapkekar, Engineer Deepak Lande, Senior Health Inspector Vijay Bhoir, BJP North President Sachin Pashankar, and several other prominent local leaders and party officials.

Residents highlighted the critical issue of water ingress into residential areas and settlements due to the lack of protective walls for the drains.

Minister Patil instructed officials to promptly survey the affected areas and draft proposals for constructing the necessary infrastructure. He also emphasized the need to widen rainwater drainage channels where required and assured residents that surveys for cement concrete road construction would be undertaken.

Funds for these initiatives would be allocated from the MLA's budget, he confirmed.

Poonam Vishal Vidhate of the Nationalist Congress Party has submitted a proposal to Chandrakant Patil calling for the construction of a protective wall along the Ramnadi in the Datta Nagar area of Baner.

The incomplete protective wall along the Ramnadi in survey numbers 281 and 282 of the Datta Nagar area has led to frequent flooding issues. During heavy rains, the overflow from the Ramnadi , exacerbated by the flooding of the Mula River, inundates residential areas, causing significant distress to the residents.

"The construction of a protective wall along the Ramnadi would significantly reduce the flood threat to the residents," stated Vidhate. She also highlighted the necessity of building a protective wall for the nearby drain to further safeguard the area from flooding.
