The country is under immense pressure to control the spread of the new variant of coronavirus. This time, as people are famously saying, the virus is hitting closer to home, affecting those in closest proximity. According to reports, India in the last 24 hours reported 1,61,736 new Covid-19 cases. The overall tally went up to 1,36,89,453 on Tuesday. The data was released by the Union Health Ministry.
With the newly released data, India is once again the second-worst hit nation only after the United States, in terms of infections.
The current death toll in India stands at 1,71,058, with 879 people succumbing to the disease. India is also the fourth-worst Covid affected country worldwide as the currently active cases stand at 12,64,698.
But the recovery rate in the country doesn't look as grim as a total of 97,168 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The number of total recoveries stands at 1,22,53,697, and the recovery rate currently stands at 89.51 per cent.
The total number of samples tested in the last 24 hours stands at 14,00,122, according to the Health Ministry. So far, 25,92,07,108 samples have been tested.
The vaccination numbers remain at a low of 40,04,521 people across the country in the last 24 hours. And the total number of vaccinated individuals stands at 10,85,33,085.
