Pune: In a breakthrough investigation, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested two individuals for the murder of their friend, Pappu alias Jitendra Tripathi, after frequent disputes escalated into violence.
The incident, which took place in the Aundh Hospital premises, came to light on Tuesday morning when police found the body of the victim, who had been bludgeoned to death with a stone.
The suspects, Shiv Mangal Singh (38) and Somdatt Manmohan Dubey (22), both from Chitrakoot district in Uttar Pradesh, have been taken into custody.
The murder was uncovered after the police examined CCTV footage of the area. The footage showed the suspects and the victim arriving in the Sangvi area on a motorcycle to buy alcohol.
One of the suspects was holding a white parcel bag, which eventually led police to a courier company at Krishna Chowk. The company's records helped identify one of the suspects, Shiv Mangal Singh.
Further investigation using mobile phone tracking led police to trace the suspects' location to Parner, where they had stopped for a meal. The police reviewed CCTV footage from a local hotel and identified the suspects traveling in a bus.
They were eventually apprehended at the Shell Toll Plaza on the Samruddhi Highway in Washim district, thanks to coordination with the bus driver, who helped by slowing the bus down.
This successful operation was conducted by an anti-gang unit led by Assistant Police Inspector Harish Mane, under the guidance of senior officials.
