Pune: A troubling incident has come to light in Pune's Aundh area, where an IT director from a globally renowned company has been allegedly ostracized by members of their housing society, Supriya Towers, located on Nagras Road.
The conflict reportedly escalated after the director and his family raised questions about the society's financial accounts, leading to a series of targeted actions against them.
The affected family alleges that their home was targeted with acts of harassment, including extinguishing lights outside their residence by throwing coconuts, and preventing the director’s wife from participating in religious activities such as reciting the Atharvashirsha in front of the Ganesha idol.
Furthermore, it is claimed that the society's children have been instructed not to play with the complainant's minor daughters, effectively isolating the family within the community.
The harassment reportedly extended to more personal levels, with society members refusing to speak to the family, making faces at them in common areas such as elevators, and engaging in cruel jokes. This alleged behavior pushed the family to seek legal intervention.
Upon review, the court took the family's complaint seriously and directed the Chatuhshrungi Police to register a case against 13 members of the society.
Those charged include Rupesh Junawane, Dattatray Salunkhe, Ashwini Pandit, Sunil Pawar, Jagannath Murli, Ashwin Lokare, Aniruddha Kale, Sameer Mehta, Sanjay Gore, Sonali Salunkhe, Shilpa Junawane, Ashok Kharat, and Vaijanath Sant.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter, and the accused members have been charged under sections related to social ostracization and harassment. This case highlights the extreme measures taken within community disputes and raises questions about societal conduct and accountability.
The incident has sparked conversations about the responsibilities of housing societies and the legal recourse available to residents facing such severe social exclusion.
