Pune: The residents of the Old Sangvi area are facing significant distress due to frequent power outages, which have become a common occurrence despite ongoing cable repair works after the recent floods.
Areas such as Mamata Nagar, Madhuban Society, Abhinav Nagar, and Mula Nagar are particularly affected, with daily power disruptions leaving residents frustrated.
On Tuesday (August 20), residents of Mula Nagar had to endure a 12-hour wait for the power supply to be restored. These frequent power cuts have become a regular issue in the area, causing significant inconvenience to the residents.
The outages are affecting students' schooling, household chores for homemakers, drinking water availability, work-from-home employees, and small businesses.
Residents are demanding that the old cables in the area be replaced with new ones by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). However, attempts to contact MSEDCL officials for comments were unsuccessful.
“This has become a routine problem. For the past four to five months, residents have been suffering due to repeated cable failures,” said Vishal Sangle, a resident.
“Yesterday, the power went out at 11 a.m. and was only restored at 11:30 p.m. It went out again for some time on Tuesday morning,” said Sushant Kamble, another resident.
Not just the urban parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad city, the rural areas of Maval are also suffering from persistent electricity supply issues for several years.
Talegaon Dabhade power house supplies electricity to villages like of Savala, Khandi, Nilshi, and Kalkarai, located 35 kilometers from Takve Budruk, which frequently experience prolonged power outages. In some cases, it takes ten to fifteen days to restore power, impacting students, farmers, homemakers, and laborers.
