Pune: A man has been arrested for stealing motorcycles from the Pune Station area and selling them in Daund, claiming they were his own. When apprehended by the Samarth police, he confessed to committing the thefts to repay his debts. The police have seized ten stolen motorcycles.
The accused, Arvind Motiram Chavan (39), a resident of Daund, was identified after a Splendor motorcycle theft case was registered at Samarth Police Station on July 26. The investigation team reviewed CCTV footage from 70 to 80 locations to track the suspect.
Police constables Kalyan Borade and Sharad Ghorpade, acting on gathered information and a tip from an informant, traced the suspect to Saraswat Colony in Somwar Peth.
Upon seeing the police, the suspect attempted to flee on a motorcycle but was apprehended after a chase. During interrogation, Chavan admitted to stealing the motorcycle from in front of SV Union School in Somwar Peth.
He further confessed to stealing motorcycles from the Pune Railway Station area and selling them in Daund under false pretenses to repay his debts.
The police recovered 10 motorcycles from the accused, solving multiple vehicle theft cases in the Bundgarden and Samarth Police Station jurisdictions.
This successful operation was led by Senior Police Inspector Umesh Gitte of Samarth Police Station, with the investigative team comprising Police Sub-Inspectors Sunil Randive and Jaalindar Phadtare,
Assistant Constable Pagare, and Constables Imran Sheikh, Rohidas Waghere, Ravindra Auchare, Shiva Kamble, Amol Gavde, Rahim Sheikh, Sharad Ghorpade, Kalyan Borade, Avinash Ravde, and Arjun Kudalekar.
