Pune: The 98th All India Marathi Literary Conference, scheduled to take place in Delhi, is gearing up to host around 5,000 literature enthusiasts, with a significant number of attendees expected from Maharashtra.
The event, organized by 'Sarhad, Pune' and set at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, promises to offer a well-planned experience, ensuring that the participants have easy access to various sessions and exhibitions.
The organizers are taking into consideration Delhi’s restrictions on late-night events, adjusting the convention’s schedule accordingly.
One of the key features of the convention will be the simultaneous hosting of different programs across three to four tents, in addition to a dedicated tent for the book exhibition.
Unlike last year’s convention in Amalner, where the large distance between the tents caused fatigue among attendees and authors, this year’s convention will have all its tents set up within the periphery of the Talkatora Stadium. This arrangement is expected to provide ease of movement for all participants.
In response to feedback from previous years, the organizing committee is also working to address concerns raised by publishers regarding the facilities for the book exhibition.
Necessary improvements are being planned to ensure a smoother experience for the exhibitors and visitors alike.
Sanjay Nahar, President of the organizing institution 'Sarhad, Pune,' provided more details, stating, “We expect around 2,000 to 2,500 participants to travel from Maharashtra. Special train services are being explored for this purpose.
Accommodation for the attendees has been arranged at prominent venues such as Maharashtra Sadan, India International Centre, and Jain Bhavan.”
The convention is also expected to attract many Marathi-speaking civil service officers and students preparing for competitive exams who reside in Delhi. With their attendance, the overall number of participants could reach approximately 5,000.
The Marathi Literary Board, in light of the diverse audience that will attend the convention in Delhi, has decided to make this year’s discussions and debates less analytical and more accessible.
Furthermore, evening cultural programs, such as poetry recitations and performances, which typically extend late into the night, will be concluded earlier to comply with Delhi’s scheduling constraints.
Nahar stated, “Through this convention, we aim to conquer Delhi with pens and love. This event will help bridge the emotional gap between Maharashtra and Delhi. Our goal is to make this convention an event for the people, not just for individuals.”
