Pune: Dhiraj Singh, a seasoned Indian Information Service (IIS) officer, has assumed the role of Director at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune.
With a career spanning nearly three decades in media, communication, and public policy, Singh brings a wealth of experience to the institution known for shaping some of India's finest talents in film and television.
Singh’s academic background is as impressive as his professional one. He holds a Master's degree and an M.Phil. in International Relations, having studied at Allahabad University and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He also spent time as a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, broadening his global perspective on media and communication.
Throughout his career, Singh has played key roles in shaping the media narrative for several of India’s highest offices, including the Prime Minister’s Office and the President’s Secretariat.
His work with the Press Information Bureau (PIB) saw him manage communications for critical government ministries like Health and Commerce. Singh’s involvement in high-profile initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission underscores his ability to influence and drive public engagement through strategic communication.
Beyond his government service, Singh is also an accomplished author. His book, "Modern Masters of Cinema," is a well-regarded anthology that delves into the lives and work of influential figures in the cinematic world, reflecting his deep appreciation and understanding of the art form he will now help nurture at FTII.
FTII, established in 1960, stands as one of India’s most respected institutions in film and television education. Over the years, it has evolved from offering just five courses to providing eleven full-time programs that attract students from across the country and beyond.
Its alumni have left an indelible mark on the global entertainment industry, winning accolades such as National Film Awards, Oscars, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
As FTII continues to expand its reach with both on-campus and off-campus courses, Singh’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to further elevate the institute’s stature, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of audiovisual media education in India.
