DIAT Pune Hosts Seminar on Advances in Sensor Technologies

Pune: The Department of Applied Physics at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), in collaboration with the Sensor Research Society (SRS), organized a one-day seminar on "Advances in Sensors" on August 24, 2024.

The event aimed to showcase the latest developments in sensor technologies that play a crucial role in space, defence, atomic energy, and the health sectors, highlighting how these advancements can be leveraged to develop effective tools.

The seminar attracted around 100 participants and featured a keynote address by Dr. D. Sam Dayala Dev, former Director of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IISU) and Vice-President of SRS, along with expert sessions from distinguished scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The event was coordinated by Prof. Sangeeta Kale, Dean of Sponsored Research at DIAT, and Dr. J. Nayak, Director of CHESS, DRDO, representing SRS. Eminent senior scientists, including Dr. Anil P. Dash, Director of HEMRL, Shri A. Raju, Director of ARDE, and Dr. S. E. Talole, Officiating Director of R&DE Engineering, also attended the seminar.

The Sensor Research Society, established in 2008 by a group of leading scientists from the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) under DRDO Hyderabad, has grown to include over 400 members from DRDO, ISRO, DAE, as well as experts from academia and industry.

Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor of DIAT, serves as the President of SRS. During the seminar, SRS held its Annual General Meeting and announced the opening of a new chapter in Western India to promote awareness of advanced sensor technologies.

Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy commended the organizing team for the successful seminar and expressed his appreciation to SRS members for their significant contributions and efforts in making both the workshop and the annual meeting a resounding success.
