Pune: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a case at Bundgarden Police Station against a former Deputy Director of Education from Pune, who is currently serving as the Secondary Education Officer in Nandurbar, and his wife, for amassing unaccounted wealth.
Praveen Vasant Ahire (46) and Smita Praveen Ahire (41), residents of Anandnagar, Pathardi Phata, Nashik, have been charged with accumulating assets worth ₹31,78,200 (25.26 per cent more than their known income) through corrupt means during Praveen Ahire's tenure. The complaint was filed by ACB Inspector Rupesh Jadhav.
According to the ACB, Praveen Ahire was employed as the Deputy Director of Education in Pune and is currently serving in Nandurbar. An open inquiry conducted by the Pune ACB office revealed that between March 2002 and February 2020, Ahire and his wife acquired assets valued at ₹31,78,200, far exceeding their legal income.
The investigation found that Smita Ahire encouraged her husband to engage in corrupt practices to accumulate these assets. Consequently, the ACB has registered a case against both individuals under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Bundgarden Police Station. Further investigations are being conducted under the guidance of ACB Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe.
