Pune: A complaint has been filed against the Hindmata Foundation, run by Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, for allegedly violating the election code of conduct by distributing Diwali gifts in the Kasba constituency.

The complaint was lodged with the Election Commission, which subsequently led to a case being registered at the Samarth Police Station late on Sunday (October 20) night.

According to officials, the foundation distributed bags containing Diwali items such as scented powder, incense sticks, and rangoli to residents of the Kasba constituency.

The bags also featured photographs of Dhangekar and his wife, prompting allegations that the initiative was aimed at influencing voters. Following the complaint, an Election Commission officer filed a formal case at the Samarth Police Station.

Responding to the allegations, Dhangekar stated that he and his friends organize the Diwali gift distribution annually to share happiness with citizens.

He emphasized his awareness of the election code of conduct, noting that he had not personally participated in the event and that his candidacy for the election had yet to be announced. Dhangekar argued that his victory in Kasba is assured, which he claimed has unsettled his opponents.

He further questioned why Diwali gift bags featuring the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister’s images, which are also being distributed, are not facing scrutiny. Dhangekar demanded that if a case could be filed against him, similar action should be taken against the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
