Pune: Distinguished scholar and archaeologist Dr. GB Deglurkar emphasized the timeless relevance of Shivaji Maharaj's work at the two-day national conference, recently held at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), as part of the institution's platinum jubilee celebrations.
The event, which focused on the enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, drew prominent scholars and historians from across the country. Dr. Deglurkar delivered the keynote address at the conference's conclusion.
He said, "Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj instilled a sense of prestige among the people of Maharashtra, encouraging ordinary citizens to contribute to nation-building.
His work will remain significant not just in the 21st century but in any era. It is essential to consider the historical background, current context, and future implications when studying his legacy."
The conference was attended by several notable figures, including Member of Parliament Dr. Medha Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr. Suresh Gosavi, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Parag Kalkar, Acting Registrar Dr. Jyoti Bhakare, President of the Bharat Itihas Sanshodhak Mandal Pradeep Rawat, and senior history scholar Pandurang Balkawade.
Dr. Deglurkar also highlighted key aspects of Shivaji Maharaj's leadership, noting his emphasis on self-reliance, self-rule, selectiveness, and self-sufficiency.
Meanwhile, Pradeep Rawat remarked on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's efforts to maintain a tolerant society in contemporary India, which laid the groundwork for a subsequent era of enlightenment within Hindu society.
The event began with an introductory speech by Dr. Sanjay Tambat, Head of the Department of Communication and Journalism at the University, and was compered by Dr. Sadanand Bhosale.
