Pune: In a tragic incident that has raised concerns about road safety, a rickshaw driver under the influence of alcohol fatally hit a woman while driving at high speed.
The incident occurred on August 25 in front of the Shewalwadi vegetable market, resulting in the death of 38-year-old Sarika Rajendra Chavan, a resident of Loni Kalbhor.
The Hadapsar police have arrested the driver, identified as 40-year-old Anand Ravindra Dodke, who was reportedly speeding from Hadapsar to Loni when the accident occurred.
The impact was severe, causing Sarika Chavan, who was selling vegetables at the time, to suffer a fatal head injury. She was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save her life.
In this case, Amol Sajjan Kanagude, aged 36, a resident of Wadage Vasti, Loni Kalbhor, filed a complaint at the Hadapsar police station. Based on this, a case has been registered against Anand Ravindra Dodke, aged 40, a resident of Hingne Mala, Hadapsar, and he has been arrested.
According to the information provided by the police, the accused rickshaw driver, Anand Dodke, was driving at high speed under the influence of alcohol while heading from Hadapsar to Loni when he hit Sarika Chavan, who was selling vegetables at Shewalwadi.
Sarika was seriously injured in the accident, suffering a head injury. She was taken to the hospital for treatment, where doctors declared her dead.
The complaint mentions these details, and further investigation is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Gandhale.
