Pune: A tourist from Gujarat visiting Lonavala-Khandala caused a major commotion after he descended a 200-foot-high cliff in a drunken state, landing directly on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
The tourist, part of a group of 20 people exploring the scenic Rajmachi Point area, engaged in a minor argument with his friends. In a reckless and intoxicated state, he decided to climb down the steep cliff, putting his life in grave danger.
The situation came to light after a photo of the tourist went viral on social media. The Shivdurga Lonavala Rescue Team quickly responded and tracked down the man.
According to the rescue team, the tourist had descended using netting installed on the cliff to prevent landslides. When questioned, the young man admitted that he was under the influence of alcohol and had climbed down in anger following the argument with his friends.
The team emphasized that such an act could have easily resulted in tragedy. The incident, which occurred on Thursday (August 8) afternoon, has prompted authorities to issue warnings about the importance of safety while enjoying the natural beauty of the region.
Senior Police Inspector Suhas Jagtap of Lonavala Police Station urged tourists to prioritize their safety and that of their families, and to avoid actions that could harm themselves or others.
Recently, Lonavala police had issued an advisory for tourists engaging in reckless behavior. Lonavala police had also booked 26 tourists for unruly behavior around the waterfall near Sahara Bridge. The advisory was issued after the tragic incident where five members of a single family were swept away in the waterfall near Bhushi Dam.
