Pune Divisional Directorate of Technical Education has begun a comprehensive crackdown on irregular admissions at several prominent educational institutions across the city, with the Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT) being the first to face action.
The department has issued a circular demanding that 15 institutions provide a detailed clarification of the admission processes they followed at the institutional level.

The crackdown follows a complaint by Yuva Sena's Joint Secretary, Kalpesh Yadav, who had raised concerns about irregularities in the admission process at multiple reputed institutions in Pune.
The institutions are accused of violating the 2017 Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions Act, which mandates clear procedures for institutional-level admissions.
These include the seats under the institutional and minority quotas, as well as seats left vacant after the centralized admission process (CAP). According to the complaint, certain institutions bypassed these procedures to conduct admissions.
M.R. Jadhav, the Assistant Director of the Pune Divisional Directorate of Technical Education, issued a circular stating that institutions found violating the rules will have their admissions canceled. The first action was taken against PICT, where the irregular admissions were annulled following a detailed inquiry.
The Technical Education Department has made it clear that strict adherence to the Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions Act is mandatory. Any institution found guilty of violating the rules will face similar consequences as PICT, with their admissions being revoked.
Kalpesh Yadav also made the circular public on his social media platform 'X,' further amplifying the issue. He urged the technical education authorities to maintain transparency and ensure that the rules are uniformly applied across all institutions, without any favoritism.
