Pune: The tradition of purchasing new vehicles during the auspicious occasion of Dussehra continues to thrive in Pune, with thousands of residents ensuring they have their preferred vehicle at their doorstep.

According to the Regional Transport Office (RTO), a total of 10,601 new vehicles were registered this year during Dussehra, including 363 electric vehicles.

However, the overall pace of vehicle purchases appears to have slowed down compared to the previous year, with a noticeable decline in the purchase of electric vehicles.

Dussehra, known for being one of the most favorable days for purchases, saw a surge in the sales of gold, silver, clothes, and other goods, alongside vehicles.

The Pune RTO revealed that on this occasion, 6,707 two-wheelers and 2,922 four-wheelers were registered. Additionally, significant numbers of rickshaws, buses, taxis, and goods vehicles were also purchased during the festive period.

A comparative analysis of vehicle registrations from the previous year shows a dip in the number of four-wheelers and electric vehicles purchased.

In 2023, 6,144 two-wheelers and 3,482 cars were registered, compared to this year's slightly higher two-wheeler registrations but a lower number of cars. Electric vehicle registrations also saw a significant drop, with only 363 registrations this year compared to 1,031 in 2023.

Despite the overall slower growth, the tradition of purchasing new vehicles on Dussehra continues to hold its significance among Pune residents, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity for the year ahead.

On Dussehra 2024, Pune saw the registration of 10,601 vehicles, including 6,707 two-wheelers, 2,922 four-wheelers, 346 goods vehicles, 261 auto-rickshaws, 20 buses, 231 taxis, and 114 other types of vehicles.

Additionally, 363 electric vehicles were registered, with 309 being two-wheelers, 26 being cars, and the rest spread across other categories like goods vehicles and rickshaws.

In comparison, on Dussehra 2023, a total of 10,594 vehicles were registered. This included 6,144 two-wheelers, 3,482 four-wheelers, 219 goods vehicles, 318 auto-rickshaws, 37 buses, 309 taxis, and 85 other vehicles. That year, 1,031 electric vehicles were registered, which included 903 two-wheelers, 120 cars, and smaller numbers in other categories.

Despite a slight increase in the total number of vehicle registrations this year, the data shows a significant decline in electric vehicle sales, which dropped to 363 from 1,031 in 2023. The decline in electric two-wheeler and car purchases is especially noticeable.
