E-Learning School on Katraj-Kondhwa Road Becomes Hub for Alcoholics
Pune: An incomplete e-learning school project on Katraj-Kondhwa Road has become a hotspot for alcoholic gatherings, causing significant problems for local residents.
The project, initially slated for completion in 2016-17, has been stalled despite the foundation stone being laid on January 26, 2016. After eight years, the building remains unfinished, with no clear timeline for completion from the administration.
Currently, the half-built structure is being used for consuming alcohol and other substances. Both the municipal corporation and police have been criticized for their lack of action, leading to growing frustration among residents.
Reports indicate that late-night disturbances occur on the second and third floors of the building, affecting nearby societies including Hamy Park, Yashashree, Yashodhan Park, and Ideal Society. This situation has created an atmosphere of fear, particularly among women and children.
The original funding request for the project was ₹2 crores, but only ₹25 lakhs have been approved. Bapu Baravkar, Junior Engineer at the Building Department, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), explained, “We had planned to work on the rear section, but now we will first focus on completing the front gates and doors to restrict access to the upper floors.”
In response to these issues, Police Inspector Dashrath Patil of Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station assured that strict action would be taken against those causing disturbances.
“If such incidents are reported, we will take strong action. Citizens should contact 112 to report such activities. The police will ensure that offenders are held accountable and do not repeat their actions,” Patil stated.
Local resident Rohit Chilka, who lives in a nearby society, expressed his concerns, saying, “The third floor of the school building is frequently used for such activities. The noise from the drunk individuals at night is extremely disruptive, causing stress and fear among women and children.”
