Pune: With the assembly elections approaching, aspiring candidates in Pune have started gathering the necessary documentation to meet election requirements.
One critical document, the ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC), is needed to confirm that candidates have no outstanding dues. So far, 19 candidates have successfully obtained their NOC from various departments of the Pune Municipal Corporation, while 45 applications are still under review.
The state assembly elections are set for November 20, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 23. The window for filing nomination papers is from October 22 to October 29.
Although the BJP has already released its first list of 99 candidates, no other political party has officially announced their candidate lists yet.
For candidates to officially contest the election, it is mandatory to attach an NOC confirming they have no pending dues with their nomination papers. Failure to do so could result in objections and potentially lead to disqualification. Due to this requirement, the demand for NOCs has surged among potential candidates.
NOC Process in Full Swing
In Pune, 45 candidates have applied for the NOC, and so far, 19 individuals have been issued the certificate.
Notable candidates who have received their NOCs include Parvati MLA Madhuri Misal, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole, BJP Pune city president Dheeraj Ghate, former MLAs Deepti Chaudhary, Chandrakant Mokate, Ramesh Bagwe, Sachin Taware, Dilip Wedepatil, Amol Balwadkar, and Prasanna Jagtap.
Additionally, Ashwini Kadam, Srinath Bhimale, Prithviraj Sutar, and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) city president Prashant Jagtap have also secured their NOCs. According to senior municipal officials, any pending dues must be cleared before the NOC is granted.
Parties Yet to Announce Candidates
While the BJP has revealed its candidate list, other political parties have not yet disclosed their final candidates for the assembly elections. Many political parties, in an effort to avoid internal discord, typically announce their candidates in the final days of the nomination period.
This often results in a last-minute rush for candidates to gather and submit all necessary documents. With this in mind, many aspiring candidates have already begun the process of securing the required paperwork well ahead of time.
