Pune: On Monday (September 16) evening, as preparations were underway for the expected visit of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other VIPs to the famous Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple, a violent altercation broke out in the Belbaug Chowk area.

The incident occurred when police officers were clearing footpath stalls set up by local vendors to ensure a smooth passage for VIP movement. The altercation led to an attack on a female police constable, Ashwini Bansode, who was performing her duties at the scene.

According to the police report, Bansode and her colleagues, Police Officer Sapkal and Police Havaldar Syed, were clearing stalls and vendors along the footpath in the Belbaug Chowk and Shivaji Road areas. The officers aimed to prevent any disruption to the VIP visit by removing unauthorized street stalls.

As the officers carried out their work, a young woman selling bangles on the footpath began hurling abuses at them. She accused the officers of being bullies and loudly demanded to know if their actions were simply because they were police.

However, before they could proceed, Uma Rajendra Randive (34), along with her daughter Roshni Rajendra Randive (19) and another woman, physically assaulted Constable Bansode.

During the altercation, Bansode’s gold mangalsutra was also broken. One of the other women involved threatened Bansode, saying, "I will show you who I am once we get to Andekar’s office."

Following the incident, a complaint was lodged by Bansode at the Vishrambaug Police Station. A case has been filed against Uma and Roshni Randive, along with one other woman, for obstructing government work and assaulting a police officer.
